Alberta Marine Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Alberta Marine in Nanton, Alberta, will be celebrating its tenth year in business this fall. The dealership first officially opened its doors in 2003.

Owner, Greg Beauchamp, operated a pair of GM dealerships until 2005. He sold a few boats from those auto dealerships as early as 2002 and eventually developed a taste for the industry. "I had prior experience being a boater in the area too,' says Beauchamp. "I was dissatisfied with the boat service available in Calgary at the time, so I said to my wife ‘why don't we try to sell boats out of Nanton?''

That's exactly what the Beauchamps did. Today, nearly 70 percent of Alberta Marine's customers are from the Calgary area. Beauchamp says that one of his dealership's major advantages over the years has been the lack of good service facilities available to boaters. Alberta Marine currently services its customers from a 20,000 square-foot shop. The business even brought in a gel-coat repair specialist, which helps keep it busy with work over the slow winter months.

Beauchamp says he plans to set a date in either October or November to hold the dealership's 10-year anniversary celebration. The event will kick off with a Friday evening VIP wine and cheese gala for Alberta Marine's customers. "We're about a half-hour drive outside of Calgary, so have the VIP night on a Friday followed by perhaps a weekend barbecue and open house,' he says. "We're also currently holding an anniversary sale on our parts and accessories.'

Alberta Marine employs 20 year-round employees and is an authorized dealer for Glastron, Ranger, Yamaha, Larson, Sanger, Stratos, Lund, Harbercraft, Supreme, Cypress Cay and Chaparral. The dealership also sells and services Yamaha Waverunners, and Yamaha and Mercury marine engines. The business has nearly five acres of land that is fully secured, enabling it to offer boat storage. In 2007, the dealership built a second showroom, which now allows it to display approximately 30 different boats in addition to a variety of outboard motors.
