For the first time in eleven years Rendez-vous Nautique was extended over a two-day period, running from July 5 and 6 – a beautiful, warm and sunny weekend. Organized by the Aquanaute Training Centre, the event is the largest beach gathering of pleasure craft operators of its kind in Quebec. Each year, people gather for the fun-filled day, held on the beach of Quebec's Oka National Park on the Lake of Two Mountains.
"I tell you, it was fantastic,' says Vahe T. Vassilian, President of the Aquanaute Training Centre. "When we get good weather for this event, we don't even need to worry about how many people will come.'
Organizers say the 11th anniversary experienced the highest attendance ever, including a large crowd of recreational boaters beached along the shoreline. A river shuttle also enabled non-boaters from Bobino Marina in Pointe Calumet to reach the secluded portion of the beach that's only reachable by the water.
Gifts and prizes were distributed by Aquanaute throughout the weekend, while several boat dealers seized the opportunity to demo their products. Among those dealers were Centre du Sport Alary, which brought Yamaha jet boats and personal watercrafts for demo rides, and Groupe Performance Marine. Flyboard DNL was also present to demonstrate its flyboard to extreme sports lovers.
Participants were entertained by music provided by K.O. Entertainment featuring DJ Ames and Eagle I. Stallian. Food and beverages were available at the ‘Le Skratch' kiosk.
Lazy Bag Paris brought dozens of its beanbags, which were spread out on the beach for the public to lounge on.
Limbo and tug of war were once again part of the festivities as was the event's traditional ‘Ugliest Lifejacket Competition' sponsored by Salus Marine Wear. Those familiar with the competition came prepared with their oldest life jackets for a chance at winning first prize – a brand new Salus PFD.
