To commemorate its 60th anniversary, Buckeye Marine hosted a gala June 12th at its facility in Bobcaygeon, ON. More than 100 friends, family, business partners and past and present employees attended the event, which included food, music and speeches by second, third, and fourth generation family members who have been involved in the Buckeye's operations in the last six decades.
During the event, Regal Boats' president, Duane Kuck, presented Buckeye Marine with an award in recognition of the dealership's anniversary and its dedication to customer service, professionalism and commitment to the community. Kuck praised Buckeye's “we care” attitude.
In the month of June, Buckeye will commemorate its anniversary with a sale for its customers. This will include a 'Spin to Win' contest with every purchase promotion, special sales incentive on new and pre-owned boats, in-water boat demos, and kayak, canoe and paddle boat demos. Buckeye will also organize RC boat races, a 'Fill the Boat' food bank drive and a charity barbecue.
Family owned and operated since 1949, Buckeye Marine was first launched as a bait and tackle store by husband and wife Tom and Rosa Thompson. Tom's daughter, Joyce, married Frank Poole, who had joined the company in 1957, bringing valuable mechanical and entrepreneurial skills to the business. The addition of Frank's skills led Buckeye to expanding into boat and engine sales and service. Later, the Poole's children, Gary, David and Chris, went on to play pivotal roles in helping Buckeye grow. Gary brought financial expertise while David added a creative marketing flair. Chris brought insight into sales trends. Today, Carly, Jay and Logan Poole (fourth generation family members) are actively involved in the daily business operations.
During the speeches, much of the credit to Buckeye's success was accredited to the efforts of Joyce and Frank Poole.
Gary Poole, Buckeye Marine's co-owner, paid tribute to his father Frank, who passed away in 2008, describing him as “brilliant with numbers and an extraordinary negotiator.” He praised his financial skills and the dedication he showed by investing back into the business. Gary Poole also had kind words for his mother, Joyce, describing her as “the hardest working person we'll ever meet.”
Chris Poole, Buckeye Marine's co-owner, shared fond memories of his father and remembered him a man “driven and intense.” He also recalled the lessons their mother taught them of the importance of “being caring and considerate of the feelings of others when making decisions.” According to Chris, these attributes are reflected in Buckeye's customer service philosophy today.
Carly Poole, Buckeye Marine's marketing director, spoke of the “core values” of successful businesses being the same. She described her grandmother Joyce as being “the best at customer satisfaction.”
Buckeye Marine is a dealer of Regal Boats, Scout Boats, MasterCraft, Zodiac, Princecraft and Chaparral Boats.
