Surf Fest 2016 presented by BoardCo, marks Utah Wake Addicts’ second annual wake surf festival where riders of varying skills and levels demo a variety of boards and premium wake surfing boats. The event took place on the Jordanelle Reservoir in Utah’s Wasatch County in late June.
After a full day of riding, surfers fill out surveys about the boards and boats rating each in a variety of categories. The wake surf boats evaluated by participants included the Centurion Ri237, Malibu 25LSV, Supra SE550 and Tige Z3.
These boats were rated based on surfer responses (1 to 5) to 16 questions to determine each boat’s average overall score. The Centurion Ri237 scored nearly perfect in every category from wave and other performance characteristics to design to craftsmanship.
It should be noted, several major tow brands were not in attendance, including Nautique Moomba and MasterCraft.
Surf Fest 2016 was created by Kyle and Jesica Swensen, a pair of watersports enthusiasts based in Utah.
“This is our second time holding the event,” says Jesica Swensen. “You really have to love the sport to hold these events because they involve a lot of hard work to organize. This event is interesting because not all of the waves produced by the various boats are the same, so the riders need to adapt. It’s an amazing experience.”
Approximately 35 surfers participated in the event (including one Canadian), ranging in skill from professionals to amateurs.
