Mississauga, ON-based CMC Electronics / Esterline Co. is launching a new dealer sales training program this fall that will include stops in at least four different provinces.
"We sell highly technical products and we need to directly reach the floor sales staff with information on what is new, what is changing and what products we are missing,' said Rob Barkley, Director, Recreational Products Group for CMC Electronics / Esterline Co. "We visited with one of our dealers last fall, gathered up all the sales staff who had anything to do with selling electronics, and spent some time talking with them and doing some product training. It was great, and we got all kinds of information in return that we wouldn't have learned any other way. And we realized, we need to do this on a substantial scale, because the product is changing so rapidly now and it's so important to get the information to the floor sales staff in time for the winter boat shows.'
Barkley says four dealer sessions are being planned, one each in Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario and BC. "We're still confirming the actual venues, but the idea is use fun locations rather than some boring hotel,' says Barkley. Tentative dates are October 17 for Montreal, October 29 and 30 for Toronto, November 6 and 7 for Halifax, and November 8 and 9 in Vancouver.
“The plan is to have factory representatives from our suppliers, including Raymarine, B&G, Navico, KVH, Webasto, Simrad and others to assist us in bringing the floor sales staff up to speed with what's happening for the upcoming season while the buyers can deal with our sales staff in a more relaxed and intimate setting,” says Barkley. “Marine Electronics don't age like a fine wine on the shelf, so it is important we do everything we can to ensure our dealers have the right mix of product and the tools to move what we sell them during the fall booking.”
