Canadian Power and Sail Squardrons (CPS-ECP) wants to partner with Canadian marinas this coming season to offer boaters free Recreational Vessel Courtesy Checks (RVCC).
The purpose of the CPS-ECP RVCC is to ensure boaters have the required safety equipment onboard to avoid fines for not having the required equipment for emergency situations.
According to CPS-ECP, a Boating Safety Specialist can perform a free, anonymous check on each vessel in about 30 minutes. The specialist is a trained CPS-ECP member who will make certain recommendations and discuss safety issues to help individuals become safer boaters. Boat owners completing the inspection will be given a copy of the evaluation so they may follow the suggestions provided.
Vessels that pass will be able to display the distinctive RVCC decal. CPS-ECP adds that while this doesn't provide exemption from law enforcement inspections, it does better prepare boaters for this type of encounter.
