Crate's Celebrates 80th Anniversary with Sales Promotion

In recognition of its 80th anniversary this year, Crate's in Kewick, ON has planned several special events for its customers.

A mid-May Opening Party is planned at its Keswick location. According to Ryan Crate, Sales Consultant, 500 people are expected to attend.

Following that it will be holding its Spring Splash Sales Event. The promotion will offer Crate's' customers up to $75,000 in manufacturer's incentives, special finance rates and five percent savings on brokerage boats (prior to the new HST effective July 1, 2010).

In September, Crate's will hold a huge Annual Customer Appreciation Party, once again at its Keswick location, where tribute will be paid to loyal staff and customers who played a part in Crate's reaching its 80th anniversary milestone. Crate expects the event to entertain approximately 1,000 people.

“Few businesses survive to the next generation,” says Ryan Crate. “Fred Crate taught his son Lloyd the importance of a strong work ethic and instilled in him a determination to succeed in the boating business. Since then, Lloyd has passed along his boating knowledge to his children and grandchildren, while teaching them the importance of maintaining shared traditions and values that have been rooted in the history of the company.”

However, Crate admits that there were other factors that were paramount to Crate's achieving success over such a long period of time. “Even in the early days our family recognized the importance of adapting to the economic market and demand for an increase in boat lines and products.”

Crate's first came into existence in 1930 when Fred Crate moved his wife and nine children from Toronto to Keswick on the shores to the shores of Cooks Bay at the southern end of Lake Simcoe. Under its original name, F.S. Crate and Sons, the company began as a fishing boat rental business. Over the years the business evolved to offer new services. In the 1940s F.S. Crate and Sons shifted their expertise from fishing boats to launches and cruisers, and in the 50s, the business became a Chris Craft dealer, going on to become the largest dealer in Canada. By 1964 Lloyd Crate had become the sole owner of the company, buying out his other family members and renaming the business Crate Marine Sales. In 2005 Crates expanded, adding the Lagoon City, ON marina. Today the Crate's tradition continues with the fourth generation actively involved in operating the family business. With sales locations also in Mississauga, ON and Willow Beach, ON, Crate's now carries the Carver yacht brand and is recognized as one of the largest dealers in the world. It's also a dealer for the Marquis, Cruisers Yachts, Regal, Sabre and Back Cove Yachts brands.
