The Canadian Safe Boating Council (CSBC) is presently looking for volunteers to assist with this year's Safe Boating Awareness Week, which runs nationally from May 22 to 28 inclusive.
The organization notes a particularly urgent need is for volunteers to “dedicate time reaching out to local community newspapers, radio and television stations, to get them on board and help promoted responsible boating behaviour to their audience.” The 2009 safe boating campaign produced approximately 59 million impressions across Canada, and the goal for 2010 is to increase that reach even further. An electronic volunteer guide, along with print-ready articles and broadcast-ready public service announcements, can be found on the CSBC web site at www.csbc.npts.ca/SBAW/sbaw/awareness_volunteer_eguide.html
The organization is also interested in hearing from dealers, marinas or other marine businesses planning a safe boating event, so it can be added to the national event calendar and online listing.
Transport Canada's Office of Boating Safety provides approximately 75 percent of the funding for Safe Boating Awareness Week, with the balance to be generated from private sources.
