David Gariup, of Legend Boats, Passes Away

David Gariup, 53, an employee of Legend Boats for nearly 30 years, suddenly passed away on November 5. His fellow staff members have expressed their deep shock and sadness in response to the loss of their long-time friend and colleague.

Beloved son of Egidio (predeceased) and Valerija Gariup of Lively. Loving brother of Patrick (Isabelle), Robert (Line), Violet Sitkowski and Doris Lister (Jim). Cherished uncle of Mian, Julia, Roderick Jr. and Danial. Gariup will be deeply missed by his aunts, uncles and cousins and his many friends.

Gariup worked as a salesman at Duhamel and Dewar, and was recognized as a ‘Memory Maker' (salesperson of the year) on several occasions.

"Dave made visitors feel right at home the second he was in their presence,' said Legend Boats in a statement. "He wanted the very best for everyone he met, including customers, and that meant learning about their lives and families to help them select the very best boat for their lifestyle. That would keep their family happy on the water for years to come.'

According to his colleagues, Gariup led an amazing life. From motorcycles to gardening, backyard bonfires to world travel, he loved life to the fullest and always showed his passion for the boating world.

"Dave made every customer feel like a friend and everyone of his coworkers felt like family,' adds Legend. "He was a humble gentleman, more interested in getting to know your story and just having a great time with you than talking about his own life. Known by so many people in the boating community through his years of work and dedication at various marinas, he was a pillar in the industry. Dave is responsible for getting thousands of people out on the water to make their own memories and everyone could tell, he truly loved every minute of it. He will be missed but never forgotten and will live on in our memories and the memories of every customer he ever helped.'

A funeral service was held for Gariup at the Jackson and Barnard Funeral Home in Sudbury, Ontario on November 9.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Northern Cancer Foundation.
