Discover Boating Canada and Boating BC teamed up to educate British Columbian's media on the fun and relaxation associated with life on the water.
On August 10, the two associations hosted a media day on the water at Maritime Market and Marina on Granville Island in Vancouver, BC. The event served to demonstrate various water sports and boating tips to local press.
The two associations say recreational boating participation is on the rise, with more than 1.6 million British Columbians and 12.4 million Canadians engaging in the recreation in 2015.
The event included the use of five vessel types for media to test, including a pontoon, sport boat and bowrider.
On hand for the event was Tracey Hart, Director of Marketing, Discover Boating Canada; Don Prittie, President, Boating BC; and Mike Short, First Vice-President and Treasurer, Boating BC.
Boating BC owns the Vancouver International Boat Show. The association's aim is to promote boating and ensure the industry remains strong, works closely with all levels of government, cultivates marine career opportunities and promotes safe and responsible boating.
Discover Boating is a public awareness effort managed by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) on behalf of the North American recreational boating industry.
