The Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario (IBAO) and Robertson & Robertson Yacht Insurance Ltd., Toronto, ON, have recently donated 100 fleece magenta blankets to the Disabled Sailing Association of Ontario (DSAO). The donation is in support of the Mobility Cup Regatta, Canada's only international sailing competition for sailors with a disability.
The event, which attracts enthusiasts from across Canada and around the world who compete in specially designed sailboats, is scheduled to be held at Ashbridge's Bay Yacht Club in
Toronto, ON, August 31 to September 4.
“We are thrilled to have IBAO on board as a Mobility Cup sponsor,” said Andrew Robertson, Mobility Cup co-chair and president of Robertson & Robertson Yacht Insurance Ltd. “In addition to the practical role these blankets serve, they are a strong symbol of insurance brokers' commitment to support charities and worthy causes in their communities.”
Over the past year, insurance brokers from across Ontario have donated thousands of fleece magenta blankets to a variety of charities, including the Canadian Ski Patrol System as well as smaller local causes such as community women's shelters, fire stations and support centres in towns and cities across the country.
The first Mobility Cup in Toronto was held in 1999 and led to the founding of the DSAO, which has grown into Canada's largest sailing program for persons with a disability.
Additionally, while the DSAO is excited about hosting the Mobility Cup for the second time, this year also marks its 10th anniversary.
In addition to its sailing program with specialized equipment, the DSAO is a place where camaraderie and the rehabilitative aspects of the sport of sailing promote health, wellness and recreation for persons with disabilities.
