Exhibitors Pleased with Lewisporte Marine Show

Exhibitors spoke positively of the Lewisporte Marine Show, held at Lewisporte Stadium May 14 to 15 in Newfoundland. The show, in its second year, featured 26 exhibitors and attracted approximately 1,200 visitors.

“The people that were there were willing to buy,” describes Sandra Mitchell, Marine Show Coordinator. “We drew visitors from areas as far as Alberta, Ontario and Nova Scotia. However, Newfoundlanders are our target audience, and we were well represent with people coming from around 70 different communities in and around Newfoundland and Labrador.”

Thruway's Family Recreation Superstore reported making sales. The dealer located in Grand Falls Windsor, NL, brought Bayliner and Trophy to the show and says that entry-level fibreglass was arousing interest. “The show was a success,” says Barry Snow of Thruway's. “We did make a few sales right at the show and made some very good contacts. The majority of interest was our 17- to 19-foot runabouts. New people want to get into boating and the price point in that range is attractive. Our sales were about the same as last year.”

Retailers made out well at the show too. “Overall the show was a great experience for our company and think we'll exhibit next year,” says Matt Hindy, Manager of Arthur James Clothing Co. in Corner Brook, NL.

Changes are in store for next year's show. Mitchell says the council for the Town of Lewisporte is interested in promoting the area as a recreational boating hotspot, which will influence the show's future focus. She says the show will most likely move to a new venue next year as some companies were unable to exhibit at this year's show due to insufficient space.

Mitchell also says the town will endeavor to increase the number of clothing, and canoe and kayak exhibitors to increase the show's size and attendance. “We're trying to grow that community in Lewisporte because our area is very beautiful around the coast for paddlers,” she explains. “Also, with additional clothing exhibitors we're likely to attract more women to the show.”

Next year's Lewisporte Marine show is scheduled for May 13 to 14.
