In an ongoing effort to bring joy and happiness to the lives of children with terminal illnesses, Formula Media Group has announced that all proceeds from the sales of its Boatguide magazine at the Toronto International Boat Show will be donated to Camp Oochigeas, one of the four charitable organizations of Boating For Children's Charity. The Toronto International Boat Show will be held from January 9 to 18 at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto, ON.
“Boatguide magazine is the most comprehensive annual buyer's guide to new boats sold in Canada,” said Craig Ritchie, director of editorial and marketing of Formula Media Group. “We will be selling copies of our 2009 boat buyer's guide at two different booth locations, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to benefit Camp Oochigeas. This organization does a truly fantastic job, and we are delighted to be able to help support its efforts.”
In addition to the Toronto International Boat Show, proceeds of magazine sales at the London Boat, Fishing, and Leisure Show, held, February 20 to 22, and the Ottawa Boat and Sportsmen's show, from February 26 to March 1, will also be donated to Camp Oochigeas.
“We are thrilled to have the support of Boatguide Magazine and Formula Media Group,” said Michelle Stirrett, manager of fundraising and events for Camp Oochigeas. “This is an incredible opportunity for us to share the magic of Camp Ooch with the boating community and with all those who attend the Boat Show each year.”
A privately funded, volunteer-based organization, Camp Oochigeas is Canada's first residential camp for children living with Cancer and is devised to “change a child's life, for better, and forever.” Providing an enriched experience in the great outdoors through a series of challenging and fun activities, the camp's 400-acre property offers everything a child needs for summer adventures including an expansive, beautiful waterfront with a sandy beach, large playing fields, a campfire point and towering pine trees. Located in close proximity to many provincial parks, children are even offered the opportunity to participate in a supervised over-night canoe-tripping program. The camp also has an onsite medical facility that staffs one doctor and three nurses from the Hospital For Sick Kids in Toronto. It's the only specialty camp in Ontario to administer chemotherapy and blood transfusions on-site.
Camp Oochigeas is part of the Boating For Children's Charity that also consists of The Ontario Sailing Association Able Sail Access Boom Program, which encourages children and youth with disabilities to learn more about sailing; the Children's Wish Foundation of Canada that is dedicated to fulfilling a favourite wish for children afflicted with a high-risk, life threatening illness; and the Toronto Star Fresh Air Fund, which offers memorable summer holidays at camps across Ontario for special needs and hospitalized children.
Camp Oochigeas is accredited by the Ontario Camping Association (OCA), The Hospital for Sick Children, and the Children's Oncology Camping Association (COCA).
