The Fourth Annual Boating Business Charity Golf Tournament finally got the brilliant sunny weather it has long been denied. A total of 138 marine industry members hit the links for a relaxing day of 18-hole, best-ball golf at the Shawneeki Golf and Country Club in Sharon, ON June 16.
This year the tournament raised funds for Camp Oochigeas and the Ontario Sailing Association through live and silent auctions. Camp Oochigeas is Canada's first residential camp for children living with cancer and the Ontario Sailing Association's Able Sail Access Boom Program encourages children and youth with disabilities to learn more about sailing. The total funds raised will be released in the September/October issue of Boating Business magazine.
Golf team 12A, made up of Phil Harding, Wayne Hawtin, Steven Wells and Paul Ferraro came off the winners of the day with a score of –14 on the par 72 course. The longest drive competition, sponsored by Natural Marine, was won by David Ogilvy for the men and Joanne Coleman for the women. The title for closest to the pin competition, sponsored by McMichael Davis Marine Insurance Ltd. went to Cyndi Hodgson for the women and Brad Walker for the men. The Golf and Travel Show's straightest drive contest was won by Art Enwright, while Doug Csumrik took home the prize for Robertson & Robertson Yacht Insurance Ltd.'s Beat The Pro challenge (thanks goes to Leon McGuffin for returning as Formula Media Group's pro). With a fine display of his short game, Brian Allen took home the prize in the putting contest, achieving a perfect score.
Boating Business warmly thanks all of its event sponsors, the Shawneeki Golf and Country Club's staff and all the volunteers who made the tournament a complete success. Remember to mark your calendars for next year's event, the Fifth Annual Boating Business Charity Golf Tournament scheduled for June 15, 2010.
