Collector Boat Insurer, Hagerty Marine, based in Traverse City, MI, will be expanding its operations into Canada this month, offering coverage for qualifying classic and wooden boats.
According to the company, it will provide collector boat owners in Canada with similar insurance products and services as those that it currently offers in the United States.
“In speaking with Canadian collectors at shows and club events over the years we realized a true need for our marine products and services,” said McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty Insurance. “We look forward to being a part of the collector boat community in Canada – not just with our unique coverage options, but through everything we do to support the classic boating lifestyle.”
Elite Insurance Company, a member of the Aviva Canada group of insurers will underwrite Hagerty's Canadian operations. In March, Aviva Canada announced that it would underwrite collector vehicle insurance for Hagerty in Ontario. The companies formed a partnership in June of 2009. Through the partnership, Aviva Canada (through Elite Insurance Company) underwrites Hagerty Insurance in Canada and assists in distribution via its broker network, while Hagerty provides service, call centre operations and marketing support.
