Halifax Boat Show – Attendance Up Five Percent

According to organizers and exhibitors at the 2010 Halifax International Boat Show, held at Exhibition Park from February 18 to 21, attendance was up and visitors were serious about their next boat purchase.

The show, which is organized by the Atlantic Marine Trades Association (AMTA), Hatchet Lake, NS and Master Promotions Ltd., Saint John, NB, reported an attendance increase of five percent over last year, while boat sales remained stable.

“Attendance was up and the quality of visitors was really good,” says Hannah Munday, Executive Director of the AMTA. “It was a very successful show!”

Several exhibitors shared Munday's appraisal of the show's performance.

Jason Craig, General Manager for Quartermaster Marine, Charlottetown, PE, says he brought 18 boats to the show including models from Sea Ray, Bayliner and Boston Whaler. “Things were moving,” says Craig. “We did about 30 percent more business this year than last year. We sold a lot of bowriders and cuddies and generated a lot of good leads. We found the show drew certain buyers who have done their homework that bought on the spot. Others will contact us a week or two months later. Ultimately, we are there to let people know who we are and what we do.”

Dave Trott, Sales Manager with Seamasters Marine, Dartmouth, NS, says his dealership brought approximately 30 units to the show including models from Yamaha, Zodiac, Campion and Sylvan. “I've sold something everyday this week because of leads from the show,” says Trott. “So for me it's still happening!”

The AMTA also used the event as an opportunity to present the Marine Industry Awards for 2009. AMTA President Michele Stevens presented awards that included the 2009 Milestone Award – presented to Schooner Cove Marine, celebrating 30 years in business, the 2009 Service Person of the Year Award – presented to Jon Stuart of New Wave Power Products and the 2009 Community Contribution Award – presented to Sandy MacMillan of North Sails Atlantic.

“We are looking forward to next year's Halifax Boat Show and hope the buzz from this year's show will transfer to the upcoming Moncton Boat Show running March 26 to 28,” explains Moira Pellerine, Assistant Manager of Marketing and Operations for Master Promotions.
