Innovation Awards Presented at IBEX

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and Boating Writers International (BWI) presented six companies with Innovation Awards at this year's International BoatBuilders' Exhibition and Conference (IBEX), which ended October 14 in Miami Beach, FL.

Nine products were recognized, including three that received honourable mentions in their respective categories. The winners by category were:

Boatbuilding Methods & Materials: won by Structural Composites/Compsys Inc. for its Prisma “TA” System structural building blocks for boat repair, restoration and new construction. An Honorable Mention in this category went to Maretron for its N2K Builder.

Electrical Systems: won by Mastervolt Inc. for its Mastervolt Lithium Ion Battery, a high-capacity marine battery designed for extended lifespan. An Honorable Mention went to Blue Sea Systems for its Safety Hub250.

Hardware Fittings: won by Taco Metals for its Intelli-Hinge with its integrated ball-and-socket pivot point allowing pivoting on concave, convex and multiple plane surfaces, and able to hinge from any two sides. An Honorable Mention went to Armstrong Nautical Products for its RIB Ladder.

Inboard Engines: won by Volvo Penta for its Ocean X sterndrive equipped with a titanium-ceramic coating for improved corrosion resistance and sensor technology.

Mechanical Systems: won by Groco (Gross Mechanical Labs Inc.) for its SSA Series Raw Water Systems Monitor, which provides visual and audible alarms in the event of raw water flow reduction.

Environment Award: won by Morbern Inc. for its Boreal, which is free of heavy metals and utilizes Repreve recycled polyester yarn, agri-based plasticizers, and a water based topcoat system.
