Canadian-based Kazulin Boats has announced the launch of its new Kavalk Sportrunner series, a line of all-fibreglass sportboats ranging from 21 to 24 feet.
Based on the company's existing Adriatic 24, a semi-custom fibreglass/ mahogany sportboat, the 24 Sportrunner is the first model to be introduced in the series and rides on the same hull as the Adriatic, but incorporates a fibreglass and vinyl deck. The interior of the 24 Adriatics' are finished in mahogany and teak.
“We noticed the softening of the market in the last few years and waited for the right opportunity to introduce a lesser-priced boat with the quality and characteristics of the Adriatic 24,” says Tony Kazulin, president of Kazulin Boats.
“The market has changed, demographics have changed and we live in a new era. Historically, we have produced all fibreglass boats as we have done a lot of design work for other manufacturers and builders. It's not strange for us to do an all-fibreglass boat.”
Kazulin explained that the Sportrunners are designed for upscale quality-conscious buyers and while they can be used as a tender for larger yachts in the European recreational boat market (and designed to handle rough water), they will prove to be a very comfortable boat in the Great Lakes region.
“The models are designed for big water and are ocean-tested, said Kazulin. “Our boats have been used as tenders for big yachts, which is part of our international market. That means the model has to safely navigate through a few miles of fairly rough stuff between the harbour and the yacht. Consequently, it makes for a very comfortable boat on the smaller lakes.”
With the launch of the 24 Sportrunner, Kazulin explained the model is marketed as a competitive entry in the top 20 percent of the fibreglass recreational boat market.
“We are after the top 20 percent of the fibreglass market, which is occupied by manufacturers like Formula and Cobalt. But the 24 Sportrunner is primarily the same boat as the Adriatic 24, but 60 percent of the price,” said Kazulin.
The Sportrunner has hull length of 24 feet, beam of eight feet, a maximum seating capacity of eight, and dry weight of 4,250 pounds. The base power rating for the Sportrunner is a small block 320 hp, while the standard engine is a MerCruiser 496 MAG or Volvo Penta 8.1L Duoprop.
Additionally, the Sportrunner is a trailerable boat to be used as a primary or secondary cottage boat. It's also available with what the company calls its VAMP package, which includes a teak floor and trim, along with a mahogany dash, steering wheel and cockpit side table.
