Mercury Marine Introduces SeaPro Engines for Commercial Applications

Mercury Marine, Fond du Lac, has announced the global introduction of its new 75 to 150hp SeaPro FourStroke engines, designed for commercial applications.

Mercury's 150hp SeaPro will be available in Europe and Africa by mid-January, and is currently available in North America, Central America, the Caribbean and parts of South America. The 75, 90 and 115hp SeaPro engines will be available globally in early March.

SeaPro engines are said to provide three times the engine durability as recreational engines. All SeaPro engines feature higher-durometer upper mounts that are designed to help extend engine life and decrease lifecycle costs.

"With SeaPro we have taken theses engines to the next level of reliability and durability with outstanding performance,' said Martin Bass, Vice President of Mercury Category Management. "That translates to increased ‘up-time' and better business performance for commercial operators.'

Mercury's larger Command Thrust gearcase, which creates a bigger footprint in the water and provides more leverage to control the boat, is standard on the 75, 90 and 115hp SeaPro models. Its larger torpedo, combined with a bigger-diameter prop, can lift a heavy boat onto plane more easily and hold it there at lower speeds without impacting top speed. "SeaPro engines are specifically tuned for enhanced durability and fuel economy in commercial applications, have several hardened components, come standard with the larger Command Thrust gear case (optional on 90-115 recreational models) and come standard with commercial-specific accessories,' explains Bass.

The 150 SeaPro is based on Mercury's 3.0L 150hp FourStroke launched in 2012, and features the same modifications as the 75 to 115hp models with the exception of the Command Thrust gear case.

All SeaPro models feature an extended warranty compared to standard engines. A pictorial owner's manual and under-cowl maintenance labeling decals simplify ownership.

SeaPro engines also come packaged with a water-separating fuel filter and SC1000 SystemTach. The gearcase oil drain is in the torpedo and the recommended engine oil is 25W40.

According to Bass, the global commercial outboard engine market represents 10 to 20 percent of the total global outboard market by revenue potential. "Much of the market is located outside of North America where conventional two-stoke outboards are still widely used today,' says Bass. "We believe the SeaPro product will position Mercury as the leader in four-stroke commercial outboards and create a new proposition for four-stoke technology for commercial operators across the globe, making SeaPro a significant contributor to the Mercury engine portfolio.'
