Mercury Marine Launches Flurry of New Products

Mercury Marine, Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, announced a long list of new products during the Miami International Boat Show in February.

Chief among them, and sure to pique the interest of many Canadian boaters on freshwater lakes, is Mercury's New 115 Pro XS four-stroke outboard.

Based on Mercury's 2.1L four-stroke outboard platform launched in the summer of 2014, the new Mercury 115 Pro XS is 16 pounds lighter than the two-stroke engine it replaces and reportedly 18 pounds lighter than the nearest competing 115hp engine.

Building on its Pro XS heritage, the new 115 Pro XS is performance focused, delivering a higher top speed of up to one mph faster than Mercury's standard 115 FourStroke. The 115 Pro XS four-stroke also peaks at 6,300 rpm, higher than the standard 115 (max 6,000 rpm).

The 115 Pro XS can also run lower-pitch props, putting the boat on plane quicker and reducing 0-to-20 mph acceleration time by one to two seconds. This allows anglers to carry a little more gear onboard as well as provides them an edge in getting back to the tournament dock for weigh-in.

The engine's idle-charge feature provides up to 48 percent more battery charging at idle speed, which better supports the demands of modern marine electronics and accessories.

Mercury clearly had aesthetics in mind when designing the 115 Pro XS. The four stroke features striking red stripes that run vertically along most of its form. A subtle ‘115' decal shows the engine's horsepower rating on both sides, in addition to where it's traditionally shown on the rear.

Side-Mount Mechanical Remote Control
The new Side Mount Remote Control (for outboard mechanical engines up to 300hp) replaces the previous model that performed well for Mercury for many years.

The new design features a redesigned handle with longer grip for improved ergonomics, upgraded shift mechanism that greatly improves shift quality and feel, and advanced anti-corrosion attributes to protect critical throttle and shift components. Components that fit more tightly within the control box provide more precise throttle control and reduced noise.

The new Mechanical Side Mount Control is released for sale globally for 25hp and above four-stroke engines. The Side Mount Control with integrated choke key switch for four-stroke engines under 25hp and all two-stroke engines will be available in early 2016.

Next-generation Joystick Piloting System
Mercury's engineering team has made a series of dramatic enhancements to its popular Joystick Piloting System, part of the company's SmartCraft digital technology suite.

Beyond its new styling, the enhancements include:
• Integrated Precision Pilot Pad functionality, making Joystick operation more intuitive
• A new Joystick mode indicator that prominently indicates to the operator
route, heading and Skyhook modes as well as shows how to change heading in one-and 10-degree increments
• A new LED light ring changes colour to indicate status of Joystick operating mode
• Electronic Steering Helm replaces the electric steering motor, eliminating a 20-amp circuit for the boat builder and provides the operator more intuitive feedback on boat speed, steering angle, wheel turning rate and acceleration
• Enhanced reverse thrust for Verado outboards provides even better control in Joystick Piloting for Outboards applications
• Combined, auto-calibrating IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit)/GPS makes
Joystick Piloting System easier for boat builders to install and configure

Expanded Enertia ECO propeller Series
Originally available in 17-, 19-, 21-, and 23-inch pitches, Enertia ECO propellers, Mercury Propellers is introducing 18-, 20-, and 22-inch pitch Enertia ECO propellers, offering the series in one-inch pitch increments.

This enables boaters using the props to dial in their boat's performance and save money at the fuel pump. Enertia ECO propellers are designed with a large 16-inch diameter, extra-large blade area and a high progressive rake for increased bow lift. They are built utilizing Mercury Marine's proprietary X7 Alloy, which is said to be 30 percent stronger and four times more durable than conventional stainless steel.

Available in both right-hand and left-hand rotation, Enertia ECO propellers fit all outboard engines from 135 hp and up, as well as Alpha and Bravo One sterndrives. Mercury also says Enertia ECO props are an ideal match for its Verado 200 to 350 hp outboards.

VesselView502 and VesselView702 displays and VesselView
Mercury has launched two new state-of-the-art VesselView multi-function displays, the VesselView502 and VesselView702 (made by Navico), as well as VesselView Link, a system that integrates a Mercury-powered boat's SmartCraft data and control system with specific Simrad and Lowrance instruments to provide a fully-functional Mercury VesselView user interface on those units' displays.
