Mercury Marine is inviting attendees to demo two of its brand new engines at the upcoming International Boatbuilders Exhibition and Conference (IBEX). Held at the Tampa Convention Center Riverwalk in Tampa, Florida from September 30 to October 2, visitors can try out Mercury's new MerCruiser 4.5L 250hp sterndrive and 90hp four-stroke outboard with Command Thrust.
Boat equipped with the Mercury engines will be located at the Riverwalk South Dock (slips 8a and 8d) during show hours, including Bayliner 215 deck boat (4.5L sterndrive) and Boston Whaler 170 Dauntless (90hp outboard).
Mercury says its new MerCruiser 4.5L is purpose-built for marine rather than a re-purposed automotive block. It believes the engine's acceleration and overall performance will impress consumers who test it at the event. According to Mercury, the sterndrive features a long runner scrolled intake manifold and high displacement, producing an ideal power-to-weight ratio. This V-6 engine weighs 130 pounds less than its 5.0L V-8 small block, yet provides similar performance.
Mercury's new 90 hp FourStroke is one of three new Mercury outboards ranging from 75 to 115 hp that offer improved power and thrust, fuel economy and quiet operation –in a lighter weight package.
The company anticipates the new outboard will be a strong competitor in the bass, deep-vee, runabout, offshore, pontoon and saltwater skiff categories.
