Not many begin the boating season as well as Robert Shelton has this year. The Newmarket, Ontario resident was the winner of this year's Buy A Boat and Win contest, which was drawn at the Toronto International Boat Show in January.
As the winner of the annual draw, Shelton received $10,000 towards the purchase of the model he bought at the show, an 18-foot Haris Omni with a 40hp Mercury outboard. Shelton, who bought the boat from Gordon Bay Marine's Craig Murray, picked up his new boat package at the dealership/marina in early May in Mac Tier, Ontario on Lake Joseph.
Each year, the Toronto International Boat Show enables marine sales representatives to provide their boat-buying customers a shot at winning $10,000 towards their purchase, simply by reporting the sale. The contest also helps Canadian Boat Shows, producer of the show, to track the approximate number of boats sold throughout the event.
Shelton, an avid kayaker, says he's excited to have the new pontoon and plans to take it out fishing this summer. His first planned upgrades for the new boat include rail-mounted rod holders and an electric cooler.
