Pride Marine Group recently hosted Boating For The Cure on June 27 raising $34,161 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and Prostate Cancer Canada in support of cancer research.
The group-based event, hosted by Pride Marine Group on Lake Muskoka, ON consisted of a family boating rally and attracted more than 60 people. In addition to a welcome breakfast and registration, participants enjoyed a silent auction followed by a tour around the Muskokas where teams collected colourful balloons as well as tokens, which were turned in prior to the awards ceremony and reception. A live auction was also held.
“Pride Marine Group is proud to be the lead sponsor or the Boating For The Cure initiative and from all indications – for the first year – it was highly successful,” said Jeff Barnes, Director of Marketing for Pride. “There was great participation and huge enthusiasm for all those who came out. It was pretty impressive with this big parade of boats. Some of the teams made custom t-shirts and themed boat decorations – everyone really got involved. Everyone was unanimously committed again for next year, making it a really worthwhile event.”
The program simply involved registering a team in the spring, then the teams collected pledges from friends family and co-workers beginning March 1.
In addition to the June 27th event on Lake Muskoka, Edgewater Boats has created two special editions of their 145cc boat – one pink and one blue – to represent the battle against Breast and Prostate Cancer. For every special edition Boating for the Cure 145cc sold, $1,000 will be donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation (pink boats) or the Canadian Prostate Research Foundation (blue boats).
