Quick Thinking at Crates Puts Out Fire

Quick thinking and fast responses by both employees and the Georgina Fire Department at Crate Marine Sales Ltd. in Kewick, ON, helped douse a fire that broke out aboard a boat at the marina's lift slip last Friday, September 25th, preventing extensive damage and injury.

“Our first priority was making sure no one was injured and then closely following our established emergency fire procedures,” said owner of Crate Marine Sales, Greg Crate. “This really helped us manage the situation and prevent further loss to the property and environment.”

In accordance with our safety procedures, Environment Canada was called and put us in contact with a specialized spill company who were on site in minutes to ensure there was no harm to the environment.  “We are all very happy this event was completely contained,” commented Crate.

“Crates Marine Sales extends its thanks to the Georgina Fire Department and York Regional Police whose expertise and quick action played a key role in extinguishing this fire. It's good to know you have this kind of response and professionalism just down the street,” said Crate.

Damaged in the fire was Crates' Marine Travelift, which is being replaced. Despite this, fall haul out will continue as usual.

“We have contingencies in place for this sort of event,” explained Crate. “We are pleased with the responses and support that our customers are showing us over the last week.  We will continue to keep them up-to-date to ensure our continued attention to customer service.”
