Georgian College encourages marina operators to enroll staff in its upcoming two-day workshop on safe boat lifting practices, scheduled for November 17 and 18 at the College's Midland campus.
Marina operators are required under the Occupational Health and Safety Act to ensure boat lifting activity is carried out by competent staff. This course addresses legislative requirements for operating lifting devices and satisfies the Ministry of Labour's requirement for providing competency training. Site-specific training must be completed by employer on specific machinery.
Topics covered in the two-day workshop include:
- Review of OHSA
- Industrial regulation and marina operation
- Forklift operator review
- Propane exchange
- Safe rigging practice
- Discussion of manufacturer's manuals, for forklifts, cranes, mobile hoists and hydraulic trailers
Participants will receive instruction from qualified trainers, reference materials, a theoretical evaluationa dn hands-on practical assessment.
The cost of the workshop is $112.41. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a certificate of competency. Please note all participants are required to wear approved safety boots.
