Skippers' Plan Goes National Through CYA Agreement

The Canadian Yachting Association (CYA), Kingston, ON, has named Robertson & Robertson's Skippers' Plan, Markham, ON, its official provider for insurance services. Beginning May 1, CYA's 80,000 members and 255 affiliated yacht and sailing clubs across Canada will have access to preferred personal and commercial insurance rates.

According to Drew Robertson, President of Robertson & Robertson, the move will provide his company the opportunity to gain new customers nationally. “It's an opportunity for us to take Skippers' Plan from being a mostly provincially focused business in Ontario and Quebec, to a national one,” he explains.

Through the program, CYA members will be able to qualify for individual home, auto and marine coverage, or all three if they so choose.

“In addition to the program we're doing for consumers, there's also a commercial component to provide insurance for CYA clubs, associations and camps,” adds Robertson. “I have received a very positive response from class associations and other sailors. We're quoting on a couple of clubs right now, so obviously there's a demand.”

Currently there are 10 provincial sailing associations in Canada that are part of CYA. “Our alliance with Skippers Plan creates an unprecedented opportunity to provide our members with a full spectrum of insurance services, not just on their boats but also on the rest of their insurance needs,” notes the CYA's Executive Director, Paddy Boyd.

“Ontario is getting crowded and everyone's elbows are getting sharp,” says Robertson. “We had to start looking a little bigger in scope to continue growth. I envision the CG&B Group, of which Robertson & Robertson is part of, will assume a position as the number one marine insurance broker in Canada for both commercial and pleasure craft.”
