Yamaha Motor Canada, Toronto, ON, has announced William "Darrin' Ostapowich of Schultz Motorsports in Kamloops, BC its top technician in Canada this year.
Ostapowich earned the title of Tech GP Champion after winning the 2012 Technician Grand Prix competition held at Yamaha Motor Canada's headquarters in Toronto. The competition, involving the top 10 Yamaha technicians from across the country, challenged the techs through a series of tests that included ten skill-testing labs that required troubleshooting mechanical issues, precision measurement and customer service interviews.
In October, Ostapowich will fly to Japan to represent Canada in the Yamaha Motor Technician World Championships.
"The studying won't stop until October,' says Ostapowich about preparing for the World Championships. "I'll try to replicate the challenges we had here in Toronto while re-discovering the old fundamentals, making sure they're good and strong, and coming forth to the new technologies we now see.'
Finishing in second place was Nick King from Vernon Motorsports Ltd. in Vernon, BC, and finishing third was Mathieu Talbot from R.P.M. Rive Sud in Lévis, QC.
The purpose of the competition is to promote Yamaha's worldwide service network.
