A Tracker Marine boat factory in Miami, Oklahoma, is reported to have sustained about $30,000 in damages from a fire early Sunday morning.
The Oklahoman newspaper reports the Miami Fire Department responded to an alarm shortly after 4 am at Tracker Marine's fibreglass plant, where the company assembles its Tahoe runabouts and deck boats. The blaze was confined to the grinding room, where employees grind off excess fiberglass when components come out of the molds. Firefighters believe abandoned fiberglass materials that had been left in the northeast corner of the room ignited through catalytic action.
“The materials can heat up on their own and that causes it to ignite,” said Robert Wright, a Captain with the Miami Fire Department.
The Tahoe plant employs about 300 people. No one was injured in the blaze, which is not expected to disrupt production schedules or boat deliveries to dealers.
