Victoria, BC councilors have voted unanimously to reduce the size of WAM Development Group's planned Victoria International Marina. The mega-yacht marina is scheduled to be built along the Songhees waterfront in Victoria's Middle Harbour.
The city's rezoning of the provincial waterlot has reduced the marina's initially anticipated water space by approximately 40 percent.
“This takes us from about 52 slips down to approximately 28 slips,” says Lachlan MacLean, WAM Development Group's general manager – marina operations. “We are now awaiting the province to finalize its decision on the crown lease. The province was waiting to see the outcome of the municipal rezoning hearing, so it will likely proceed with its decision sooner rather than later.”
Before the province provides its decision, WAM Development Group will submit an updated plan for the marina based on the reduced water space footprint as a result of the rezoning. MacLean hopes to have those plans to the province by next week.
