Watsonville, CA-based West Marine is accepting applications for its annual Marine Conservation Grants program. Up to US $30,000 is available through the program and Canadian organizations are eligible to apply.
Grants ranging from US $500 to $5,000 will be awarded to organizations proposing conservation projects that are beneficial to recreational fishing or sustainable commercial fishing, while preserving marine resources.
“West Marine is pleased to encourage the efforts of anglers and conservation groups who are both working towards plentiful fish stocks for everyone,” said Randy Repass, West Marine's Chairman of the Board and Founder. “We support a resource first approach so that future generations will be able to enjoy fishing as we have.”
Grant applicants must submit their proposals to West Marine. The Marine Conservation Action Team (MCAT) reviews applications. Successful applications must display sound financial policies and management, and should focus on marine conservation, habitat restoration and sustainable fisheries.
To date, West Marine has donated more than US $4,650,000 to non-profit organizations that support youth boating, boating safety and the marine environment.
Applications are available on West Marine's website. The close off date for entries is May 1, 2011. West Marine will announce winning applicants on June 18.
