West Marine will announce the winner of its second annual Green Product of the Year contest at the Miami International Boat Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center on Thursday, February 17. The 2011 grand-prize winner will receive a $10,000 award.
“Every fall, West Marine holds an informal, internal competition among all of the Category Managers to find the most interesting and innovative new products,” said Chuck Hawley, West Marine's Vice President of Product Information. “The competition is fierce, since thousands of new products are added to West Marine's assortment each year. By showcasing the products we deem to be most exciting, it's our hope to encourage the industry to continue to innovate and excite our customers.”
This year's product finalists include:
SPOT Connect allows users to keep in contact with friends, family and emergency personnel from remote locations. When a SPOT Connect is paired with a compatible smartphone, users are connected to a global satellite network that lets them send messages and GPS coordinates from virtually anywhere on the planet, even when great distances from a cell phone signal.
Harken T2 Soft-Attach Blocks
With no metal shackles or rivets to corrode, the T2's fiber-reinforced, nylon-resin sideplates reduce weight, noise and damage to your deck and gear, while creating a flexible, fair lead point to reduce friction.
BlackTip Catch and Release Recompression Tool
Designed to reduce the effects of barotrauma on deep-water fish, the BlackTip Catch and Release Recompression Tool is said to work on any fish species in both fresh and saltwater. The device holds the fish's jaw until it hits bottom, automatically releasing the fish at adequate depth for recovery.
Lowrance Elite-5 DSI Gold Fishfinder/Chartplotter Combo
A combination of Lowrance's DownScan Imaging technology with a Navionics Gold chartcard, the Elite-5 DSI clearly distinguishes between predator fish and baitfish schools, hard and soft bottoms, as well as fish and structure on or near the bottom.
SmartPlug 30-Amp Power Cord
The SmartPlug 30-Amp Dual-Configuration Cordset connects a SmartPlug 30-amp receptacle on a boat to a typical 30-amp twist-type outlet on the dock. It utilizes tinned copper wire throughout the entire length of the cable for corrosion resistance. Cords are available in 25-foot and 50-foot lengths.
The presentation will take place at West Marine's booth located in the center pod, lower level from 10:05 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
