Yamaha Motor Canada Announces 2014 MY Boats and WaveRunners

Yamaha Motor Canada, Toronto, Ontario, has revealed its latest marine product offerings for the 2014 model year. The company's newest products include lighter and faster WaveRunners, a new Super Vortex High Output (SVHO) engine and updates to its sport boat lineup. The company also announced the completion of a new US $3 million expansion of its boat manufacturing plant in Vonore, Tennessee.

"This is a huge year for Yamaha WaveRunners with the introduction of the most powerful, highest performing engine we've ever placed in a WaveRunner,' says Jean-Francois Rioux, Yamaha's Product Manager. "And we didn't just stop at the engine. We enhanced every single performance component surrounding this new engine to get the absolute most performance and dialed-in handling we could get. The models featuring our new SVHO engine deliver race ready performance right out of the box.'

Yamaha will be equipping some of its high-performance watercraft models with the new SVHO engine. Yamaha's Super Vortex High Output is purpose-built as an 1,812cc, four-stroke, four-cylinder engine that's supercharged and intercooled. All PWC models equipped with this engine will come with a new 160mm, eight-vein jet pump. Yamaha also says the cooling efficiency of the engine has been improved by 25 percent. The engine's air intake has been increased by 20 percent by using a larger diameter supercharger impeller and supercharger boost is improved by 60 percent. The company also says it made improvements to the engine's oil cooling efficiency by 110 percent with an all-new cooling system. The SVHO also features a fuel injection system that increases fuel flow, and possesses high-performance forged pistons.

Yamaha's 2014 WaveRunner line has grown to include 14 distinct models.

Yamaha's value-minded VX series will now feature the company's nanotechnology-engineered NanoXcel hulls and decks, dropping the weight of the craft by 65 pounds compared to last year's models. "With nanotech engineered hulls and decks on our VX models, entry level buyers will have amazing experiences on the water,' says Tim Kennedy, Yamaha's National Marketing Manager.

The company's FX SVHO Series includes the FX Cruiser SVHO and FX SVHO, which feature the most powerful engine to ever power a WaveRunner. They also feature the company's NanoXcel hull and deck to keep the units lightweight.

Yamaha's FZR and FZS performance models receive a double-digit power boost from the SVHO engine. The units also receive new sponsons, a new ride plate and new top loader intake grate for better handling in high-speed turns.

Sport Boats
For 2014, Yamaha's sport boat lineup will include 12 models ranging from 19 to 24 feet in length. These include open-bow runabouts, deck boats and wakeboard boats. Other new highlights for 2014 include new Clarion sound systems with Bluetooth connectivity, new interior refinements, new tower coatings and new colours and graphics schemes.

"Our unique approach to boat building, which includes our boats being Yamaha all the way through – the engine, the manufacturing and the dealer base, has really taken hold with customers and propelled us to the top of every size range we compete in,' says Yamaha Product Manager, Jean-Francois Rioux. "As a result, our jet drive systems have risen to become the standard for performance, reliability and functionality from which all other family recreational boats are now measured. Now for 2014, a whole new group of boat buyers will be able to experience these products like never before.'

New Plant Expansion
To meet the growing demand for its boats in 2014, Yamaha also announced the completion of its expansion of its boat manufacturing plant, Yamaha Jet Boat Manufacturing in Vonore, Tennessee. The expansion includes the acquisition of land adjacent to the plant and the construction of a new R&D building along with the addition of a new hull and deck assembly line that will increase production capabilities by 25 percent. The US $3 million expansion follows a similar US $6 million investment Yamaha made in the plant just four years ago.
