Lowrance, a manufacturer of fishing electronics since 1957, announced the addition of a 16-inch screen model to its new HDS Carbon fishfinder/chartplotter series. The HDS Carbon 16 is now the largest model in Lowrance’s MFD lineup.
“We are confident anglers are going to be excited about HDS Carbon 16, the biggest display ever produced in the 60-year history of Lowrance,” said Leif Ottosson, CEO, Navico – parent company of Lowrance. “Combining a 16-inch high definition display with our exclusive SolarMAX HDtechnology and the high-level performance of the HDS Carbon series will provide anglers with an on the water experience second to none. Anglers will not find a better combination of power and precision on the market.”
The HDS Carbon 16, is the largest-ever model produced for the Lowrance brand and is said to offer the equivalent surface viewing area of four seven-inch models. The massive, high-definition screen features SolarMAX HD technology, offering an easy-to-view display in all lighting conditions. The display features a 1920×1080 HD resolution and is engineered to withstand higher temperatures than conventional units, offering enhanced reliability in warmer climates.
Triton Boats has already completed new production bass boat designs that will accommodate a factory flush-mount installation of the HDS Carbon 16 at the console as well as at the bow.
The unit features a new dual-core processor that smoothly drives advanced angling features including StructureScan 3D with SideScan and DownScan Imaging; StructureMap; Broadband Radar; and SiriusXM Weather Chart Overlay. With its impressive speed, anglers can switch between applications without lag or interruption as well as simultaneously view independent sonar feeds.
SolarMAX HD displays come from the implementation of IPS (inplane switching) screens in fishing electronics. With enhanced colour accuracy and boosted high-definition reproduction, IPS screens are designed for viewing picture-like sonar images.
In addition to integrated wireless connectivity, HDS Carbon 16 features Bluetooth control of multiple Power-Pole shallow water anchors and Bluetooth audio streaming from the SonicHub 2 marine entertainment system.
The unit features a 10Hz internal GPS antenna and offers compatibility with a multitude of mapping options via its dual microSD card slots.
Compatible with a wide range of mapping, the HDS Carbon 16 supports radar; SmartSteer control of Motorguide’s Xi5 trolling motors as well as Lowrance Outboard Pilot; and offers full engine data integration with a growing list of compatible engine brands. The HDS Carbon 16 will be available in May.
